Kaomi: Nihongo Quest is an educational game that teaches Japanese through a scene-based RPG adventure. It is designed for a general audience of Japanese learners — teens and adults — not specifically for children, and it is not directed at children under 13.
During onboarding you may type a display name so Kaomi (your in-app cat companion) can address you by it. This name is stored only in local storage on your device (an offline Hive database) and is never transmitted anywhere. If you skip it, the app still works normally.
The app requests microphone permission (RECORD_AUDIO) so you can practice speaking Japanese out loud and receive a pronunciation score. Here is exactly how that works:
SpeechRecognizer) to convert your speech into text so the app can score it. The app never receives, stores, or has access to the raw recording — only the recognized text. The app requests BLUETOOTH / BLUETOOTH_CONNECT permission solely so that a paired Bluetooth headset's microphone can be used for pronunciation practice, the same way it would for any voice app. We do not use Bluetooth for tracking, advertising identifiers, or any other purpose.
The app requests the INTERNET permission but, in this version, makes no network requests to any backend service of ours — there is no cloud sync, no server-side leaderboard, and no remote content download. All lesson content, vocabulary, and progress ship with the app or live only in local storage. (Android's speech-recognition service, described above, may itself use the network on the operating system's behalf.)
The app's code includes a catalog of planned one-time unlock purchases, but in-app purchasing is not active in this release — no purchase flow is reachable from the app's menus, and no payment can be made. If and when purchases are enabled in a future update, this policy will be updated first, purchases will be processed entirely by Google Play Billing (we would never see or store your payment details), and the update will be described in the app's release notes.
With your permission, the app may send local reminders to continue practicing. These are scheduled and generated entirely on your device using Android's local notification system. We do not send remote/push notifications and do not collect any data to target notifications.
Because Kaomi: Nihongo Quest (developer: Kaomi Dev Studio) collects no personal information and has no backend, there is no server-side account or record to delete. Everything the app knows about your progress — your display name, vocabulary learned, streaks, and settings — lives only in local storage on your device.
To request deletion of your data:
What is deleted: everything — there is nothing stored anywhere except on your own device. What we retain on our servers: nothing; we have no servers that store user data.
This app is not directed at children and is not part of Google Play's Designed for Families program. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because the app collects no personal information from any user.
If we change our data practices — for example, when in-app purchases or any online feature is introduced — we will update this page and the effective date above before that change ships.
